Welcome!

Kate R. Casey, M.C., Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington. Working with individuals, couples, adolescents, families and groups.

I work with individuals, couples, groups and families who are dealing with challenges concerning grief and loss as well as life transitions such as birth, death, divorce, marriage and blending and blended families.  I have a passionate interest in integrating yoga and therapy as a model for treatment of emotional, psychological and spiritual issues.  I provide guidance, structure and support for those who are confronting their family-of-origin beliefs.  I have 25 years of professional experience dealing with addictions and compulsive behaviors and I am trained in the techniques of EMDR and TFT in the treatment of shock and trauma.

  • Check out my link with Psychology Today and Yoga Centers.
  • I do animal-assisted therapy as a team with my dog, Honey.  Honey, is a soft-coated wheaten terrier. For more information on the human-animal connection go to Delta Society.
  • I also volunteer at Evergreen Hospice in Kirkland as an animal-assisted therapy team and in the bereavement and loss program.

Recommended Reading

Read my recent article about Grief in the Workplace.

Be sure and read the article I have Busyness Plan from Yoga Journal.  It talks about the kind of busyness that causes distress either external or internal and what you can do about it. There is plenty you can do to change the internal kind and to experience a sense of having "all the time in the world".

An article that has recently inspired me is The Secrets Inside Your Dog's Mindby Carl Zimmer from Time Magazine (September 2009).

In the article Truth is Good for You. by David Servan-Schreiber from ODE magazine (December 2008),  the best prescription for happiness is, to thine ownself be true. By speaking your truth you have an opportunity  to take charge of how you live your life and create a sense of empowerment in the midst of chaotic times.

"My attitude of hope goes a long way toward helping people change.  I am convinced that all people can grow.  It is a matter of connecting them with their own inner resources.  That is the therapeutic task." - Virginia Satir

To learn how handle your stress one day at a time I refer to the article Get Happy by David Servan-Schreiber from ODE magazine (June 2008).
